Best Wisconsin Camping with 13 Waterfalls

I live in WI and I love camping and waterfalls. So when I learned that you can go camping near waterfalls, I needed to do some research and find out where these campgrounds are. This table has these waterfalls and the campgrounds you can stay at.

Below I provide you with information about each campground you can stay at along with information about each waterfall. There are 14 waterfalls you can visit just in Marinette County alone.

Amnicon Falls State Park

Types of Camping Sites

There are 36 campsites, including one that is available for those with disabilities and two walk-in sites. These 2 walk-in sites are 100 and 150 feet from the parking area. If you camp at one of these 36 rustic campsites you are able to take a short walk to the Amnicon Falls day or night.

Amnicon Falls

Amnicon Falls are more than just one waterful. There are more than one with rapids as well. From the campground, there is a short walk to the falls. If you want to stay dry, there is a walking bridged you can look down at the falls. Or if you don’t mind getting wet, you can bring your swimsuit and get into the water.

Big Manitou Falls

Big Manitou Falls and Little Manitou Falls

There is a 5-minute walk from the campground to the largest Wisconsin waterfall, Big Manitou Falls. This waterfall is 165 feet. If you want to check out the Little Manitou Falls, there is a trail to take you there but it is a longer walk. The smaller waterfall drops water down 30 feet into the Black River. You are able to see these falls along the walking trails.

Governor Dodge State Park

Governor Dodge State Park holds Cox Hollow Campground and Twin Valley Campground. Cox Hollow Campground is closest to Stephans Falls for hiking.

Stephen’s Falls

Stephan’s Falls is in Cox Hollow Campground which has been stated to be very photogenic. This waterfall can be seen along the 40 miles of hiking trails through Governor Dodge Park. Stephans Falls is at the end of The Lost Canyon where the water falls near carved sandstone.

Lake of the Falls County Park

The Falls

The falls have a 10 feet drop into the Turtle River, which is in the Lake of the Falls County Park. You are close enough to the waterfalls, that you can hear them at your campsite.

Copper Falls State Park

The Falls

From your camping area, all you need to do is take a mile hike on the North Country National Scenic Trail. This hike will take you to both the Copper and Brownstone Falls. If you keep walking to the south past these 2 falls, you will come to another waterfall. You are able to get close to this waterfall. Copper Falls is on the Bad Riber and Brownstone Falls is on Tyler Forks.

Marinette County Waterfalls

There are four camping places nearby to stay at while you are exploring the Marinette County Waterfalls. These are McClintock Park, Twelve Foot Falls Park, Goodman Park, Twin Bridges, and Morgan Park.

There are 14 waterfalls you can go and see in Marinette county. They even have a waterfall tour you can go on. This tour is self-guided and costs $5 for a car day pass.

There are McClintock Rapids in this park for viewing. However, there is a hiking trail from the rapids to the Strong Falls.

Twelve Foot Falls Park

  • 7 Trailer campground sites on top of the hill near the park entrance.
  • 5 regular campsites south of the picnic area.

There is a dog walking trail to the Eight Foot Falls and the Twelve Foot Falls from Twelve Foot Falls Park.

Goodman Park

With just a short walk from Goodman Park, you can view Strong Falls on the Peshtigo River.

The town of Niagara holds 3 waterfalls. These are Smalley Falls, Long Slide Falls, and Piers Gorge.

Where is the biggest waterfall in WI?

Superior Wisconsin is where you can find the biggest waterfall. Big Manitou Falls is the tallest waterfall at 165 feet.

Waterfalls in Wisconsin Dells

There are a few waterfalls that you can visit when in the Wisconsin Dells area. The two waterfalls are Skillet Falls and Pewits Nest. These are not directly in Wisconsin Dells, but they are near Baraboo, which is very close.

The falls are not very large but the view of them is pretty with the cliffs around them. While at Pewits Nest, there is an area that you can wade in the water.
